Westover woman victim in fatal Monongalia Co. crash

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — A Westover woman died in a single vehicle crash on Smithtown Road in Monongalia County.

According to Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Perry Palmer, Opal Compton, 79, was pronounced dead at the scene Thursday shortly after 3 p.m.

According to reports, the Compton’s Toyota Corolla veered off the side of the highway and over an embankment where it came to rest 90 feet below the roadway.

Deputies reconstructed the scene and continue to investigate cause of the accident.
