MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — After years of rumors it appears the interior stores of the former Martinsburg Mall are closing, leaving only the anchor stores Wal-Mart, J.C. Penney and Bon-Ton open.
Paramount Development Corporation, the owners of the Foxcroft Towne Center at Martinsburg, announced Wednesday that the closure would happen on November 1.
The decision will affect about 15 current tenants and displace a U.S. Postal Service office.
Paramount CEO Eric Cornett said in a statement the property is no longer economically viable as an enclosed mall.
There are plans to redevelop about 40,000 square feet of interior mall space between J.C. Penney and Wal-Mart to provide additional parking for new retail space within the existing mall building that would have outside entrances.
The announcement included news that Five Guys Burgers and Fries and Wingstop restaurants had signed leases for space in a new six-unit building under construction at the shopping center.
Retail stores stores Great Clips and T-Mobile are also signed up to lease space.
A Chili’s restaurant is slated to open in the coming weeks and a Panera Bread is on track for a 2017 open.
