Elderly man’s body found along Mon River and rail trail

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Morgantown police located the remains of the subject of a Silver Alert from last week.

Police Chief Ed Preston said investigators made the discovery Wednesday at 11:05 a.m. on a steep embankment next to the rail trail and Monongahela River.

Joseph Ray Arnold, 65, of Morgantown was reported missing September 8. His family indicated Arnold was last seen at Trinity Episcopal Church on Willey Street at about 10:00 a.m.

The Morgantown Police Department used its marine patrol, foot patrol and tracking dogs from the Preston County Sheriff’s Office in the six day search.

Preston said there were no immediate signs of foul play. A cause of death is pending results of an autopsy.

The Morgantown Fire Department, Monongalia County EMS and the medical examiner assisted in the investigation.
