MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia women’s soccer team climbed to No. 2 in this week’s NSCAA top 25, matching the program’s highest ranking in the coaches poll.
The Mountaineers’ (6-0-1), fresh off beating Duke for their third victory over a ranked opponent this season, moved up two spots and trailed only Stanford (6-0-1). Those squads’ positions were flipped in this week’s TopDrawerSoccer.com poll, giving WVU its first stint at No. 1, though the TDS rankings aren’t officially recognized by the NCAA like the coaches’.
West Virginia received six of the 31 first-place votes on the coaches ballots.
Texas Tech (6-1-1) was the only other Big 12 Conference team ranked this week at No. 24. Georgetown (6-1) entered the coaches poll at No. 18, just ahead of Sunday’s match in Morgantown.
The Mountaineers also host Princeton (6-0) on Friday at 7 p.m.
