SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A fight led to gunfire early Wednesday morning at a football field in South Charleston, leaving one man dead and a second facing murder charges.
“We initially had a call for a fight that ended up with one party getting shot by the other party after the altercation,” said South Charleston Police Lt. Pat Rader.
Soon after arriving around 2 a.m. police arrested De’Antony Thornabar, 21, of South Charleston on charges of malicious wounding and wanton endangerment. The charges were later upgraded to murder when the victim, Dylan Bailey, 20, of South Charleston died at the hospital.
“He was still there and was arrested by patrol,” Rader said.
Police were continuing their investigation and weren’t revealing the circumstances that led to the fight, which happened on the football playing surface of Oakes Field.
Rader said Oakes Field is not a secure location and is open to the public 24 hours a day.
