CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The state Culture Center will be closed Wednesday so crews can replace a glass panel at the front entrance of the building.
“This particular piece of glass had a fracture in it, which ran, so we have had a big black piece of plywood on the door there for about six week,” explained Caryn Gresham, deputy commissioner for the West Virginia Division of Culture and History.
There will be no public access for the State Museum, Library Commission Library, Archives Library, Culture Center Gift Shop and division administrative offices.
“My understanding is there will be a big crane here and a lot of people working. We just simply had to close that front of the building so it would be safe,” Gresham said.
The work is due to the age of building, Gresham told MetroNews.
“The building is 40 years old and those are large glass panels so I think that’s something that can happen over time,” she said.
If installation is completed on Wednesday, the building will be reopened on Thursday.
Gresham said the staff will still be in the building Wednesday.
