“October Sky” actor to take part in Beckley Rocket Boys Festival this weekend

BECKLEY, W.Va. — Actor Chad Lindberg, who played Sherman O’Dell in 1999’s “October Sky,” will spend the weekend in Beckley for the October Sky Rocket Boys Festival.

The festival runs from Friday to Sunday at Tamarack and the Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine in Raleigh County.

“There’s going to be a lot going. On Friday, I know they’re going to show ‘October Sky’. There’s going to be an acting work shop with myself,” Lindberg said on Thursday’s MetroNews Morning News.

Lindberg, 39, started acting when he was a sophomore in high school. In addition to his role in “October Sky,” he is also known his roles in “The Fast and the Furious” as well as television roles on “Sons of Anarchy” and “Supernatural”.

“Occasionally I’l flip through and see something or mine” when watching television, he said. “I usually like to watch it with friends or family and people because you kind of get a new perspective through their eyes.”

Shot in rural Tennessee and based on the true story of a coal miner’s son, Lingberg said he didn’t know much about mining when he first started filming.

“I mean once we got there, they kind of just threw us into it and built these amazing sets that were around us. When you’re in that environment it’s hard not to just feel it,” he said.
