Rubio, Heck provide assistance at Wheeling area wreck

WHEELING, W.Va. — Two members of Congress traveling on Interstate 70 near Wheeling Thursday night helped at the scene of a deadly crash.

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Florida) and Rep. Joe Heck (R-Nevada) had been at an event in nearby St. Clairsville, Ohio, and were traveling back to their hotel when they saw the wreck that involved a tractor-trailer that had hydroplaned and three other vehicles. Rubio and Heck, a former emergency room doctor, got out of their vehicle and assisted at the scene until first responders arrived.

The crash claimed the life of Bernard Bachmann, 62, of Washington, Pa.

Both Rubio and Heck issued statements offering prayers and condolences for those involved.
