LUBBOCK, Texas — West Virginia achieved its second-ever 5-0 start in the Big 12 era and produced the seventh-biggest yardage output in school history.
Skyler Howard bit off a piece of history, too, throwing his 42nd touchdown to surpass Major Harris for seventh place on the program’s career list.
The quarterback’s primary satisfaction from Saturday’s 48-17 romp involved West Virginia avoiding offensive lulls. Four second-half drives produced 24 points and kept Texas Tech out of striking distance.
“You can’t get complacent with a team like that,” Howard said. “You’ve got to keep your foot on the gas pedal and that’s what really stuck out to me.”
Next up on that WVU career touchdowns list, by the way, are Oliver Luck and Chad Johnston (43) and Rasheed Marshall (45). Howard has a legit shot at catching Pat White (56) and second-place Marc Bulger (59), but Geno Smith looks safe at the top with 98.
