Senior night turns sour for WVU men’s soccer

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — West Virginia men’s soccer team suffered a 2-1 loss to Buffalo on senior night, a fourth consecutive setback that left coach Marlon LeBlanc apologizing.

“It’s my fault. I didn’t have my team ready to play, clearly,” he said. “We got out-worked on our home pitch for the fourth game in a row and that’s my fault. I don’t have my guys prepared. Clearly I didn’t have them prepared well enough to come out and have a good performance tonight.”

Senior defender Jack Elliott scored his first goal of the season in the 11th minute for the Mountaineers (6-5-1, 0-2 MAC), though the lead didn’t last long.

Buffalo (9-3-1, 1-1) answered in the 14th minute on a header by Tommy Fogarty-Cameron and took the lead before halftime when the Mountaineers failed to clear a ball in the box. Off the turnover, Scott Doney found the net.
