Former Ohio County Schools Public Credit Union director charged with embezzlement

VALLEY GROVE, W.Va. — The former Ohio County Schools Public Credit Union executive director is facing embezzlement charges, according to a Thursday announcement from U.S. Attorney Bill Ihlenfeld.

Kathleen Gramlich, 65, of Valley Grove, was charged in federal court by Information with “Theft from a Credit Union.”

According to a news release, Gramlich stole more than $156,000 from the Credit Union and used that money to pay off personal debts from June 2013 to March 2016.

“The member accounts at the Ohio County Public Schools Federal Credit Union are insured by the National Credit Union Administration Board,” said Ihlenfeld in the release. “Because of this insurance, and because of the way that the scheme was perpetrated, the funds of account holders are not, and never were, in jeopardy.”

The Credit Union serves about 1,000 members.

Gramlich faces up to 30 years in prison if convicted.
