Mt. Hope man charged in attempted convenience store robbery

FAYETTEVILLE, W.Va. — A Fayette County man is facing charges following an attempted robbery at convenience store on WV Route 16 in the Fayetteville area.

Fayette County Sheriff’s Deputies and local officers arrested Ralph Jennings Ward, III, 34, of Mount Hope for the attempted robbery at Ball’s Grocery.

According to the Sheriff’s Department, the suspect reported at the store had multiple tattoos, was wearing grey shorts and a camouflage shirt, and had a bandana around his face.

Police located Ward approximately 1/4 mile away from the store. He denied involvement in the attempted robbery, but was taken into custody when police found outstanding warrants for his arrest.

Police used video surveillance to identify Ward as their suspect.

He is charged with felony second degree robbery.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Department is investigating.
