Police investigate Institute shooting

INSTITUTE, W.Va. — A man was found critically  injured in a parking lot Thursday morning after being shot several times, Kanawha County authorities said.

The shooting took place at an apartment complex in the community of Institute at about 11 a.m.

A police officer from West Virginia State University was first on the scene at 121 Smoot Ave. The victim had been shot in the head.

No arrests have been made. Kanawha County sheriff’s deputies and Dunbar police are investigating.

Public schools in Dunbar and the campus at West Virginia State were placed on lock down for a period time.
