CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The full board at Yeager Airport will consider a lawsuit against West Virginia Paving Company at its meeting next week.
Yeager’s Resolution Committee voted Friday morning to join the Kanawha County Commission, the state Division of Highways and several other municipalities in a lawsuit against the paving company alleging a plan to drive up asphalt prices.
“We’ve incurred several hundred thousand dollars worth of expenses in paving,” said Terry Sayre, director of Yeager Airport. “A lot of our is a special mix type of black top asphalt.”
The other lawsuits, filed last week, allege the companies formed a de facto monopoly by gaining control of 15 asphalt plants that, at one time, competed against each other.
The municipalities that have filed legal action include Charleston, Parkersburg, Beckley and Bluefield.
West Virginia Paving and its parent company deny the allegations and have said they will fight the lawsuits.
The Yeager Airport board will vote on the lawsuit at its meeting set for Wednesday, Oct. 26.
