HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — With the start time pushed back by more than an hour, it was eventually No. 2 Spring Valley (8-1) that controlled the contest from start to finish, winning 21-0. The Timberwolves held third ranked Capital (6-2) to just 47 yards of total offense on 35 plays.
“We played awfully well, especially defensively. It was a pretty dominating performance tonight,” said Spring Valley coach Brad Dingess. “Coach (Frank) Arthur, my defensive coordinator, does a great job. He had them dialed in tonight. We have some pretty good kids out there. People talk about how big we are, but this is by far the most athletic team that I’ve had.
“We guarded them,” he continued. “We played really well on the back end and got some pressure on them. We mixed up some coverages and I thought we kind of confused them a little bit.”
Offensively, Spring Valley totaled 406 rushing yards on 58 attempts. The Timberwolves were led by senior Mason Brubeck who finished with 193 yards on 18 carries and three total touchdowns.
“Our backs ran hard and we just blocked them up front,” Dingess said. “It wasn’t anything fancy. With Jonah Wellman getting over 100 yards, we’ve had seven guys go over 100 yards this year. We turned the ball over three times inside the 20 or we would have put some more points up.”
