President at Fairmont State University announces retirement

FAIRMONT, W.Va. — Following more than 25 years at Fairmont State University, Maria Rose has announced her retirement.

Rose was appointed president May 3, 2012.

The alumna earned her bachelor’s degree from Fairmont State College before going on to earn a master’s and her doctorate from West Virginia University.

The former Fairmont State Interim President, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs and faculty member will complete her current contract which ends June 30, 2017.

“I am grateful for the relationships built and lives changed by this University, which has made a great impact on my life. My role in the story of Fairmont State is changing but not ending. Tom, our family and I will always be proud to be part of the Falcon family,” Dr. Rose said.

FSU’s Board of Governors is expected to conduct the search for a new president after search procedures are approved by the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission.
