Man charged with murder in fatal heroin overdose investigation

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — A heroin overdose death leads to a murder charge in Monongalia County.

West Virginia State Police Corporal K. G. Murray arrested Gary Alan Richmond after responding to a heroin overdose Thursday, October 20 at Independence Hill Village.

Investigators believe Richmond sold narcotics to the 24-year-old-woman.

Richmond is in the North Central Regional Jail charged with first-degree murder, two counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and one count of delivery of a controlled substance.

A first-degree murder charge carries a potential life sentence.
