Berkeley County man indicted on charges related to child’s death

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. — A Berkeley County grand jury indicted a man on charges in connection to the death of a child.

Michael McKinley, 30, of Hedgesville, faces several charges including child abuse resulting in death and child neglect resulting in serious bodily injuries.

The child, Wesley Mowery, III, died from second and third-degree burns and head trauma following a car accident. Police believe McKinley, the boyfriend of the child’s mother, burned Mowery in hot water.

Officials on scene said the burns covered about 95 percent of the child’s body.

McKinley will be arraigned Nov. 14.
