MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Continuing an emphasis on replenishing its secondary, West Virginia gained a commitment Friday from three-star safety Kerry Robinson of Pittsburgh’s Imani Christian Academy.
The 6-foot-3, 205-pounder holds offers from Pitt, Louisville, Iowa State and Cincinnati, with strong interest from Virginia Tech, Penn State and Arizona State.
Robinson becomes the eighth defensive back among the Mountaineers’ 18 commitments overall.
“He gives WVU an excellent option at either of the box safety positions,” said Rivals writer Keenan Cummings, who reported the commitment for WVSports.com. “He shows great closing speed as he runs downhill to make plays on ballcarriers. He plays big and fast and shouldn’t get out muscled by flex tight ends or find himself mismatched against speedy slot receivers like he should see in the Big 12.”
“With a few years of Mike Joseph’s strength and conditioning under his belt, he could possibly move to one of the outside linebacker positions.”
