Former Summers Co. Commissioner pleads guilty to fraud charge

HINTON, W.Va. — A former Summers County Commissioner, who is currently serving time for embezzlement, has pleaded guilty to a separate charge.

Prosecutors dropped the embezzlement charge against Jerry Berry, 55, this week. Berry pleaded guilty in Mercer County Circuit Court to one county of fraudulent schemes.

In April, Berry was sentenced to one to ten years in prison for embezzling more that $10,000 from the Summers County Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Berry is accused of improper use of funds in Mercer County when he worked for the website wvyourway.com.

Berry will be sentenced Dec. 2. He is currently being held at the Southern Regional Jail.
