House of Delegates Majority Leader Daryl Cowles (R-Morgan) was the unanimous choice of the authority after several people made application for the job.

Cowles told MetroNews affiliate WEPM in Martinsburg Friday that he’s glad to join the effort.

“There are a number of great projects underway and things happening here in Morgan County,” he said. “I want to see some of these projects across the finish line.”

The economy in Berkeley Springs and Morgan County is a unique blend of tourism and small and medium-sized businesses that is well-positioned for tech companies, Cowles said.

“We have pretty good connectivity, some broadband here in downtown Berkeley Springs, we would love to attract those types of businesses as well,” he said.

Cowles has managed his family-owned construction firm for more than 20 years. He is unopposed for reelection in Tuesday’s general election.
