Man and two boys injured in cliff fall

HINTON, W.Va. — A man and two young children are hospitalized after falling approximately 70 feet from a cliff in southern West Virginia.

The incident happened Friday evening in Summers County near Hinton. Authorities say the adult male was in his 50’s and the two children, both boys, were under the age of ten. It’s unclear what they were doing near the rock cliff.

The incident was largely inaccessible and rescue crews used the CSX railroad to access the accident site. Train traffic on the tracks was shutdown for several ours while crews worked on the difficult rescue.

The adult victim and one of the boys were flown to a regional trauma center while the third victim was transported by ambulance to Summers County Hospital in nearby Hinton. Rescue team members described as three as in “bad shape.” Their conditions today are unknown as are the identities of the three victims.
