MINERAL COUNTY, W.Va. — A former treasurer for the Ridgeley Volunteer Fire Department in Mineral County has plead no contest to felony embezzlement charges.
No sentencing date was immediately scheduled for Cheryl Shipley who entered the plea Wednesday, according to Mineral County officials.
A no contest plea comes with no admission of guilt.
In May 2015, Shipley was indicted on multiple felony counts for allegedly taking more than $300,000 from the Ridgeley VFD during a time period from 2005 to 2010.
The money was embezzled using electronic transfers, checks written for personal expenses and cash withdrawals, investigators have said.
One to ten years behind bars is the possible sentence for Shipley who could also be ordered to pay additional restitution.
Her husband, Robert Shipley, a former president of the Ridgeley Volunteer Fire Department, was also indicted on a conspiracy charge last year.
