Former police clerk pleads guilty to embezzlement

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A former police clerk for the city of Mount Hope has entered a guilty plea for embezzlement, according to Fayette County’s prosecutor.

Cynthia Dawn Moore is scheduled to be sentenced at 9 a.m. Jan. 6, 2017. She faces 1 to 10 years in prison and has agreed to pay restitution and cooperate with the investigation.

Moore is accused of collecting more than $7,000 in cash payments for citations and fines — and taking the money for herself. She also altered receipts and town records to conceal her crime, according to Fayette County Prosecutor Larry Harrah II.

The crime was investigated by the State Police.
