CHARLESTON, W.Va. — U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Mathews Burwell, a West Virginia native, will be in Charleston Tuesday morning for a panel discussion on the Affordable Care Act.burwell_Sylvia

The discussion will take place at the University of Charleston with health care officials and state residents. It’s scheduled for 11 a.m.

According to a news release, the uninsured rate in West Virginia has been cut in half, dropping from 14.6 percent in 2010 to 6 percent in 2015, since key provisions of the Affordable Care Act went into effect in 2010.

This means about 165,000 more West Virginians now have health insurance.

Tuesday’s discussion will be held in UC’s Erma Byrd Gallery.
