Ohio State too much for Marshall as Herd suffers first loss

COLUMBUS, Oh. – The Marshall basketball team fell for the first time this season, dropping a road contest at Ohio State 111-70.

The Herd used a 23-6 run in the first half to pull away, taking a 38-14 lead at the 9:16 mark of the first half. Jon Elmore led Marshall in the loss with a season-high 25 points and six assists. He has scored at least 20 points in three games so far this season. Austin Loop finished with 15 points off of five 3s for the Herd.

“Ohio State played extremely well,” said Marshall coach Dan D’Antoni. “They gave us a lot to look at on film. We’ll see if we can get better Obviously we played a lot of similar opponents coming in here and we both won with similar scores. I don’t know if our kids were tired or they just got lost in the headlights, but we seemed a lot slower tonight. I don’t want to take anything away from Ohio State. Hats off to them. They gave us a lot to look at.”

Marshall dropped to 4-1 overall, while Ohio State improved to 6-0 on the season.
