WALTON, W.Va. — An affiliate of American Electric Power Company has announced plans to improve the electric transmission grid in parts of the Mountain State including a key project that will be located between Clendenin in Kanawha County and Walton in Roane County.
Transource Energy plans to construct 25 miles of new 138-kilovolt transmission line, build 3 new substations and make additional upgrades. An open house on the project is scheduled for Dec. 8 at Walton Elementary/Middle School.
The project is in response to a 2014 study by PJM Interconnection, the regional transmission organization responsible for monitoring the electric grid in 13 states including West Virginia, that called for the project.
“We are excited to have the opportunity to help strengthen the power grid in West Virginia that will in turn improve local reliability to customers,” Transource Energy President Antonio Smyth said in a Friday news release. “The open house is an opportunity for our project team to speak with landowners and answer questions, view maps and preliminary study segments and learn more about the project. It also gives our team a chance to gather valuable information to help us build the best possible project we can.”
All 25 miles will be located in Kanawha and Roane counties, Transource said.
