Flags at half-staff Saturday for Heiskell

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin ordered state flags at state facilities to fly at half-staff Saturday in honor of former Secretary of State Edgar “Hike” Heiskell III who died last Sunday.

Heiskell served as Secretary of State from 1973 to 1975. He was also the chair of the West Virginia Republican Party from 1987 to 1990.

Tomblin’s proclamation said the state along with friends and associates of Heiskell “desire to recognize his dedicated public service to the great State of West Virginia and to acknowledge his valuable contributions to the State.”

The Morgantown native, who was 76 at the time of his death, was scheduled to be remembered in services Saturday.
