Walker, whose 12-year term will begin Jan. 1, won the first non-partisan election in the Court’s history back in May. She defeated three other candidates including current Justice Brent Benjamin in his reelection bid.

“I am very committed to the rule of law,” Walker told MetroNews after her victory. “I’m quite confident that my endorsements and other support were based on my commitment to being fair and impartial and not any expectation of a way to rule in particular cases.”

Walker will join Justices Robin Davis and Margaret Workman to form a female majority on the five-member Supreme Court. She’ll be sworn-in at 10:30 a.m. by fellow Justice Allen Loughry.

Walker has worked for the Bowles Rice law firm for 22 years.
