CHARLESTON, W.Va. — State Attorney General Patrick Morrisey is welcoming the State of Maryland’s intent to cease a permitting process that would have restricted West Virginia’s use of the Potomac River.
Maryland Attorney General Brian Frosh and Secretary of the Environment Benjamin Grumbles signed a letter that acknowledged the Mountain State’s right to the Potomac, and agreed to cease further review and issuance of water appropriation and use permits for West Virginia users.
Morrisey said the agreement will be a boon for Berkeley County as the Procter & Gamble facility will need a large water source.
Commercial development in the Eastern Panhandle is projected to increase the region’s daily demand for water by approximately 2 million gallons.
Morrisey said an agreement regarding the usage and protection of the Potomac is still being developed.
