Beckley man dies after being struck by log truck

BECKLEY, W.Va. — Raleigh County sheriff’s deputies are investigating the death of a Beckley man killed Wednesday after being struck by a log truck.

Richard Carl Owens died in the accident near the intersection of Ragland and Stanaford Roads at around 2 p.m., deputies said.

According to authorities, the driver of the truck stopped for directions. He was pulling back onto the road when Owens was standing in front of the tractor-trailer.

Owens was taken to Raleigh General Hospital and died during surgery.

There is no word on whether or not any charges will be filed in the case.
