Future plans announced for Sugar Grove property

SUGAR GROVE, W.Va. — The U.S. General Services Administration announced Thursday the new owner of the former U.S. Sugar Grove Naval Station property in Pendleton County plans to turn the facility into a healthcare campus.

Robert Pike, who submitted the highest bid of nearly $4 million, is working with the Mellivora Partners from Birmingham, Alabama, to re-purpose the property into a healthcare facility that will focus on the needs of both active duty military personnel and the residents of West Virginia, according to the GSA Acting Regional Public Affairs Officer Sherrie Taylor.

The property includes 123 acres of remote forest and open land. The facility has residential space, office space, dormitory style housing, eating facilities, recreational facilities and a fire and police station among other amenities.

The Sugar Grove site served as a Navy Information Operations Command (NIOC) base until Sept. 30, 2015.
