MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — The building housing three local radio stations in Martinsburg has been officially named for long time radio broadcaster Hoppy Kercheval.

Officials from WV Radio Corp., the building’s owner, were at the station at 1606 W. King St. Wednesday to unveil a bronze plaque depicting Kercheval during a ceremony Wednesday.

The Hoppy Kercheval building houses WEPM, WLTF and WICL, stations purchased by WV Radio Corp. in Oct. 2014.

Kercheval is a native of Summit Point in Jefferson County and actually began his career at WXVA in Charles Town.

His brother, Nick and mother, Patricia attended the event along with numerous state and local representatives.

WV Radio Corp. President Dale Miller said that while Kercheval lives in Morgantown people learn quickly where he calls home.

“Not a single day goes by Hoppy doesn’t mention the Eastern Panhandle,” he said.

Kercheval, the host of Metronews Talkline, was speechless when asked about the recognition.

“It’s a little bit overwhelming,” he said. “It’s a great honor. I started in radio over here [the Eastern Panhandle] and now to have this building, with WEPM named for me is almost incomprehensible and I’m very flattered.”
