Inmate back in custody following brief escape in Boone County

MADISON, W.Va. — A regional jail inmate was back in custody in Boone County Monday afternoon following a brief escape, authorities said.

Justin Keith Branham, 33, of Alum Creek, took off at around 1 p.m. while being walked back across the street in Madison after appearing before a Boone County magistrate. He was found at about 3 p.m.

Branham is being held on grand larceny charges after allegedly stealing two government-issued vehicles at the MSHA office in Boone County last month. He also allegedly broke into a pawn shop.

State troopers, Boone County sheriff’s deputies and Madison police officers were part of the search.
