HENDERSON, W.Va. — A Mason County teenager is facing homicide charges after police say he crashed his car last week, killing his passenger.

Police charged Chanse Brayden Baird, 18, of Point Pleasant, after they said he lost control of the car, hit a telephone pole and went over an embankment into the Kanawha River. James Brady Leonard, 18, also of Point Pleasant, died in the crash.

It happened Wednesday afternoon on Chestnut Street just off of Old Route 35.

Baird was charged with negligent vehicular homicide, reckless driving, driving on a suspended license and failure to maintain control.

He was released on a $50,000 bond and is on home confinement.
