Randy Lee Cumberledge, 39, of Maple Ave., Philippi, was killed Sunday, Dec. 11, while police were attempted to serve outstanding drug warrants.  Cumberledge was also being sought by a bail bondsman, according to police.

An incident report stated police spotted a car in the side parking lot at the White Hall Walmart Sunday afternoon. As they approached the vehicle they ordered the driver to show his hands. Cumberledge allegedly put the vehicle in drive and drove aggressively toward a Marion County deputy, the report said.

The deputy and a White Hall police both fired their weapons. Cumberledge was pronounced dead a short time later.

The store was briefly locked down and deputies already in the store Sunday afternoon for Shop with a Cop, directed customers to the back of the store after the shooting occurred.

In July, Cumberledge reportedly failed to appear for a hearing and his sentencing in Harrison County Circuit Court. Cumberledge pleaded guilty to a felony heroin distribution charge in June.

State police are investigating the shooting. The information is expected to turned over to the Marion County prosecutor for review.
