Prezioso names Palumbo to serve as Senate Minority Whip

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Senator Corey Palumbo (D-Kanawha) will serve as Minority Whip, according to an announcement made Thursday by incoming Senate Minority Leader Roman Prezioso (D-Marion).

Palumbo, a Charleston attorney, will begin the job on Jan. 11, 2017. The 60 day regular legislative session begins in February.

Palumbo was elected to the House of Delegates in 2002. He was elected to his first term in the Senate in 2008 and served as chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee from 2011 to 2014.

“As I listened to all of my colleagues, one name kept coming back to the top of the list, and that’s Senator Palumbo,” Prezioso said in a statement. “His experience and demeanor, as well as his universal respect from members, makes him well suited to help tackle the challenges we have before us in the Senate.”

Palumbo said he is “very honored and humbled” to be named to the position.

“I’m excited to begin working with President-elect (Mitch) Carmichael, Minority Leader Prezioso and the rest of my colleagues to move our state forward,” Palumo said in a statement.
