State DMV now offering driver’s license renewals online

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The state Division of Motor Vehicles has taken a significant step in its online offerings with driver’s license renewals now available, DMV Commissioner Pat Reed announced Friday.

The online renewal process can begin once a licensed driver in West Virginia receives his or her renewal information in the mail.

The DMV explained the process in a news release:

“To access the online driver’s license renewal, visit the DMV web site at www.dmv.wv.gov. Next, choose online services, and then driver’s license renewal. Once your transaction is completed, you will receive your new driver’s license in the mail within 10-14 business days. The picture used will be the most current one on record.”

The online option is available for non-commercial drivers 21 or older who are in good standing with the DMV. No changes can be made to name, address or certain driver information when renewing online.

“To complete the online renewal, drivers will need their current/expired license, the renewal notice mailed by the DMV, which includes the 4 digit pin number they will use in the transaction, and a major credit or debit card,” the DMV said. “Additionally, the receipt that customers receive at the end of the transaction will include their picture and a notice for them to keep the receipt with them as they drive until the new license arrives in the mail.”

The service, which is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, is a great option, Commissioner Reed said.

“We are very excited to offer our customers the ability to renew their driver’s license from home with our secure and efficient online services portal. We’ve really worked hard this year to make DMV services more accessible and convenient for our customers,” Reed said.
