Crews work to restore power for more than 10,000 W.Va. customers following overnight storms

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Saturday night storms caused more than 10,000 power outages for Appalachian Power customers in West Virginia, according to the company.

As of 11:40 a.m. Sunday,  11,092 West Virginia customers were still left in the dark.

Kanawha County had the most reported outages. More than 4,800 customers were without electric.

Outages affected more than 500 in Cabell County and more than 1,100 in Roane County, to name a few.

Kanawha County Metro 911 dispatchers said the outages were due to downed trees and and power lines in the Elkview area.

It was some the worst flooding since 2011 in the town of Cameron in Marshall County, residents said. Flooding covered most of downtown Cameron and destroyed a pool from the rain Saturday night.
