Fugitive injured in Harrison County shooting Tuesday night

STONEWOOD, W.Va. — A Harrison County fugitive is in Ruby Memorial Hospital following an officer-involved shooting at a residence in Stonewood Tuesday night.

Police had been searching for Cody Allen Hardman, age unknown, of Harrison County, since late last week when a felony capias warrant was issued for his arrest.

Harrison County Sheriff Albert C. Marano confirmed Wednesday that law enforcement received a tip on Hardman’s whereabouts and his possession of a firearm.

A SWAT team entered the home Tuesday night to bring Hardman into custody. During the raid, Marano said Hardman pointed what appeared to be a firearm at a SWAT team member.

The officer then shot Hardman, but the firearm was actually a “pellet gun” that was a replica of a .45 caliber Smith & Wesson.

Marano said the pellet gun did not have an “orange tip” to indicate to officers that it was not a firearm.

The arrest was a joint effort by West Virginia State Police, the U.S. Marshal’s Service, and the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office.

No officers or bystanders were injured during the incident.

The extent of Hardman’s injuries and his condition remains unknown.

He is currently in Ruby Memorial Hospital.
