BUCKHANNON, W.Va. — One of West Viriginia’s longest-serving public servants passed away Thursday.

Upshur County Clerk Debbie Thacker Wilfong, 61, passed away after 43 years in the Upshur County Clerk’s Office.

She served from 1973 to 1993 as a deputy clerk.

Beginning in 1993, she served as County Clerk after winning her first of four successful elections.

Wilfong won re-election in November.

County Commissioner Troy A. Brady III said the Upshur County Commission will meet Wednesday morning to appoint an interim County Clerk.

They must make a decision on a permanent replacement to serve out Wilfong’s term within 30 days.
