Christmas Eve fires leave two dead in West Virginia

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Separate fires left two people dead in West Virginia on Christmas Eve.

The first fire broke out at a home on Dunn’s Road near the community of Jumping Branch and the Raleigh County border in Summers County. The fire stated around 5 a.m. Saturday and by the time fire crews arrived the house was fully engulfed in flames. The West Virginia Fire Marshal’s office confirmed the fatality. The body of an adult female was found in the burned out home after firemen had extinguished the blaze. Authorities say an adult male was injured in the fire.

A cause for the fire is under investigation and the names of the victims had not been released.

A second fire in Monongalia County Saturday also claimed a life. The blaze around 7:30 claimed the life of a 90 year old man on West Run Road off Stewartstown Road just outside of Morgantown. The fire marshal reports the cause of the fire was likely electrical, but could not say for certain. The investigators were also unsure if the home was equipped with smoke detectors. The name of the victim was not released.

Both fires remained under investigation Saturday evening.
