Fugitive shot by police in Harrison County dies

STONEWOOD, W.Va. — The Harrison County fugitive shot in an officer-involved shooting last week died Tuesday.

According to Harrison County Sheriff Albert C. Marano, a Sheriff’s deputy shot Codey Allen Hardman, 27, of Bridgeport, last Tuesday, Dec. 20, during an attempt to serve a capias warrant at a residence in Stonewood.

Eddie Hardman, who is also the mayor of the Harrison County town of Anmoore, posted last Thursday morning on his personal Facebook page “…I was always proud of you and will always have you in my heart, R. I. P. until we meet again I LOVE YOU.”

Mayor Hardman did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Marano said Codey Hardman was in possession of a “pellet gun” replica of a .45 caliber Smith & Wesson. He also claims Hardman pointed the replica firearm at an officer during an incursion by a SWAT team that was attempting to take Hardman into custody.

First responders transported Hardman to Ruby Memorial Hospital following the shooting.

A Burnside Funeral Home online obituary lists Hardman’s date of death as December 20. Additional details for a service were not available.

The Harrison County Sheriff’s Department confirmed Hardman passed. He will now undergo an autopsy in Charleston.

Marano said the deputy involved in the shooting is on administrative leave pending an investigation by the Department’s Lieutenant. There is no concrete time table for that investigation’s conclusion.

The results of the internal investigation will then be turned over to the Harrison County Prosecutor’s Office for review.

No bystanders or officers were injured.

The U.S. Marshal’s Service and West Virginia State Police were also involved in the operation.
