Second victim dies from Clay County wreck

CLAY, W.Va. — Investigators believe excessive speed was the main factor which caused an accident on Route 16 near the community of Bickmore in Clay County Tuesday evening which has now claimed a second life.

The driver, Connie Brown, 53, of Bickmore died at the Charleston Area Medical Center overnight.  Brown’s two young grand daughters were in the vehicle at the time.  Killed in the accident was Kadie Truman, age 9.  The second child, Madiline Truman, 7, survived and remains in the hospital.  Deputies say Madiline is doing well.

“An eyewitness of the accident indicates speed was a factor,” said Clay County Deputy Tyler Caruthers. “The vehicle rolled in a curve.”

“Two to three of the individuals were ejected,” said Caruthers. “At this time we aren’t for sure if the third individual was ejected, but we know for sure that two of them were.”

The Clay County Sheriff’s Department continued to investigate the crash Wednesday.
