CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Police arrested a 16-year-old boy Tuesday night and charged him with armed robbery and wanton endangerment following a shooting in the service area of the Charleston Town Center Mall Monday afternoon.
The boy was named in a juvenile petition, according to Charleston Police Chief of Detectives Lt. Steve Cooper.
“(The crime) was in a hallway between the mall and service drive. One shot was fired,” Cooper said.
Cooper previously said the 16-year-old knew the boy he was trying to rob from school. The alleged victim, who was not injured, is 15. Cooper said the shot was fired as a form of intimidation.
The boy faces other charges, according to Cooper.
“We’ll be meeting with the prosecutor’s office regarding this case. He also had another petition filed against him that hasn’t been served yet for a different robbery,” Cooper said.
The teenager is being held in a juvenile detention facility.
Cooper gave an update on the case during an appearance Wednesday on 580 Live with Charleston Mayor Danny Jones on 580 WCHS.
