When and where to see Jim Justice’s inauguration as W.Va. governor

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A new website — www.InaugurationWV.com — has been launched to share information about Governor-elect Jim Justice’s inaugural festivities.

The site is meant to provide West Virginians with information about the Jan. 16 inauguration ceremony for the new governor at the state Capitol, as well as the inaugural ball that night at The Greenbrier resort, which Justice’s family owns.

People interested in participating in the festivities should visit  www.InaugurationWV.com to sign up for email updates.

Tickets will become available for the ball starting Thursday, Jan. 5.

The inauguration ceremony at the Capitol starts at 1 p.m. with Justice taking the oath of office on the south plaza.

The inauguration ceremony will include a traditional 19-gun salute, an inaugural address from ustice, special music performances, posting of the color by military and law enforcement, and the swearing in of the governor, Secretary of State, Attorney General, Treasurer, Auditor, and Commissioner of Agriculture.

Seating will be available on the south plaza.

Parking will be available in the Capitol parking garage and the parking lot by University of Charleston Stadium (Laidley Field) with shuttle service to the capitol campus.

Immediately following the ceremony, the governor and the first lady, together with newly-inaugurated members of the Board of Public Works, will receive the public in the lower Rotunda of the state Capitol.

For the receiving line, visitors must enter through the security checkpoint at the east main entrance on the California Avenue side of the building. The governor and first lady will sign commemorative programs for well-wishers. Visitors will then be directed to exit through the west main entrance across from the Culture Center and proceed to the public reception.

At the conclusion of the inaugural ceremony, there will be a reception in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., featuring live music by Bob Thompson and light refreshments in the Great Hall of the West Virginia Culture Center.

The inaugural ball starting at 7:30 p.m. at The Greenbrier is black tie optional and requires tickets, which go on sale Jan. 5. Entertainment for the evening will include a national headliner, Landau Eugene Murphy, Jr., the Walter Scott Trio, The West Virginia Jazz Orchestra, The Richard Hefner and the Black Mountain Bluegrass Boys, plus River Jam.
