ELKINS, W.Va. — Theodore Yeager Newlon, 86, of Gilman, died Tuesday just weeks after a judge sentenced him to life in prison for the 2012 murder of his wife, Dora Newlon.
A jury convicted the Randolph County man in the February 2012 shooting death early last year.
His sentence of life with mercy permitted him to seek parole after 15 years in prison.
His legal representation argued for alternative sentencing, since Newlon’s health had been in decline. A judge denied that motion last month.
Newlon served more than 1,800 days in prison following his initial arrest.
