10th Street Fairmont shooting death trial underway

FAIRMONT, W.Va. — The trial of a Marion County woman accused of shooting and killing another woman in November 2015 is underway.

There is no dispute over whether or not Alma Barnett, 47, of Fairmont, shot and killed Carol Zurasky on November 8, 2015. Rather, the defense is arguing Barnett acted in self-defense–an argument police have disputed.

Zurasky was declared dead at the scene of Barnett’s 10th Street home at the time of the shooting.

Jury selection began and ended Wednesday. Opening statements, witness testimony, and cross-examination also began on the trial’s first day.

The trial continues Thursday.
