W.Va. deals with first snow of 2017

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — West Virginia will be impacted by two different storm systems, both of which will bring snow.   Most of the state is being hit by a system pushing into the state from west to east which is crossing the country.

“It will snow pretty good through the afternoon and evening hours and overnight,”said Ray Young with the National Weather Service in Charleston. “We’re expecting a good two to four inches with some spots seeing a bit higher than that.”

The storm is situated from Huntington to Elkins.  The second system is a clipper which is moving in from the south.  On MetroNews Talkline Young said that system is drawing moisture from the Atlantic and putting down higher amounts of snow to the south.

“The storm in the south with barely graze the Beckley area,” said Young. “You may hear about stuff in the Carolina’s and Virginia with a half a foot of snow and it’s two unrelated systems.”

The National Weather Service has posted winter weather advisories for most of the state from the mountains west until 6 a.m. on Friday.
