SUMMERSVILLE, W.Va. – Nicholas County Superintendent Donna Burge-Tetrick recommended merging multiple schools together at the Nicholas County School Board meeting Monday as a result of schools being damaged in the June flood and decreased enrollment
Burge-Tetrick said she recommends Nicholas County High School, Richwood High School and a technical center consolidates into one high school facility, while Richwood Middle School and Summersville Middle School should combine to form one middle school. The two schools would be located on a singular campus.
Richwood Middle and High School as well as Summersville Middle School were heavily damaged in the June 23 flood.
Burge-Tetrick also said enrollment is down across the district, which is another reason for consolidation. According to her, decreased enrollment was a problem prior to the flood.
School board members said they will consider the superintendent’s recommendation.
Currently, Summersville Middle School is holding classes at the Summersville Convention and Visitors Bureau. Richwood Middle School and High Schools are holding classes in portable classrooms.
